"Anfällig" Grenze 2025 - Call for Entries

To be anfällig is to exist in a state of precarious balance—frail, vulnerable, perpetually at risk of collapse. It is the recognition that we are never fully healed, that our return to the world is always marked by uncertainty. Fragility, rather than a temporary weakness, becomes an enduring condition, a constant interplay between strength and susceptibility. The Latin root of "Cagionevole," causionabilis, suggests causality—something that is not inherently weak but made so by external forces. We are shaped by instability, influenced by doubt, and bound to the unpredictability of existence. Even in moments of apparent security, we sense the undercurrent of threat, the inevitability of rupture.

With Grenze 2025, we are invited to explore the liminal space where fragility and resilience intersect. How does instability shape our identities? How do we navigate a world where certainty is an illusion? By examining the boundaries between strength and weakness, we begin to understand that fragility is not merely a state of being but a lens through which we perceive reality.

Cagionevole becomes an unfiltered confrontation with existence—a willingness to stand exposed, to acknowledge the beauty found in imperfection, in suffering, in the uncertain. Photography, as an art form, offers a unique medium to capture these delicate states of being, transforming the transient into something permanent, the weak into something profound.

Vulnerability reveals itself in the minutiae of everyday life: in the fading of materials over time, in the flaw that disrupts symmetry, in the erosion of once-stable structures. It manifests in the tension between the natural and the artificial, in the passage of seasons that dictate the rhythm of life. To be fragile is to exist within a world that is constantly shifting, to move along slanted perspectives, to oscillate between despair and renewal. Those who are intimately familiar with fragility understand that the world is in a state of continuous decline, and yet, within that decline, they also find the raw and undeniable essence of being.
